Disk Recon 14.1
File Types
The File Types tab scans a folder and produces a statistical breakdown of disk space usage grouped by file extension. It answers the question: what kinds of files are using all my space?
What the Report Shows
For each file type (extension) found in the scan, Disk Recon reports:
- Extension — the file type, e.g.
.mp4,.docx,.log. - Number of files — how many files of that type were found.
- Total size — the combined size of all files of that type.
- Percentage — what share of total scanned space that type represents.
Results are sorted by total size by default, so the biggest space consumers appear at the top. Click any column header to re-sort.
Typical Uses
- Finding that
.bakor.tmpfiles are quietly consuming gigabytes of space. - Identifying unexpected file types (e.g. video files inside a documents folder).
- Auditing a server share to understand the storage mix before a cleanup.
Additional Info
- Reporting — Export results to XLS, HTML, TXT, CSV, or XML from the menu bar.
- Cancelling — Cancelling mid-scan shows results for all files processed so far.
