Mousotron : Mouse and Keyboard Activity Monitor

Mousotron 15.0

Technical Specifications

Important: Systemwide Hooks

Mousotron operates using a systemwide mouse hook and a systemwide keyboard hook. These hooks allow the program to capture activity regardless of which application is currently in focus.

If either of these hooks cannot be successfully registered by Windows, Mousotron will be unable to count the corresponding measures. If you notice your counters are not moving, you must first resolve the hook registration problem.

Hook Registration

Mousotron relies on systemwide mouse and keyboard hooks to capture activity. If Windows is unable to register these hooks, Mousotron will be unable to count the corresponding measures. You must fix the hook problem first for the counters to function.

Most Likely Hook Problems:

  • Security Software: Antivirus or HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention Systems) may block hook requests as a security measure against keyloggers.
  • UAC Privilege Mismatch: If an application is running with higher (Admin) privileges than Mousotron, the hook may be unable to monitor activity within that specific window.
  • Hook Chain Interference: Another active program may have "captured" the hook chain and is not passing events to the next application.
  • System Timeouts: If the system is under extreme load, Windows may automatically drop hooks that respond too slowly to avoid interface lag.

System Architecture

Data Accuracy

To ensure the most accurate distance measurements, users should verify their Monitor Size in the General Setup tab. This setting serves as the baseline for all trajectory and speed calculations.

Online Integration

Mousotron utilizes standard Windows connection settings to transmit data to the global leaderboard. The system supports real-time sorting and tracking of up to 11 distinct metrics, including extra mouse buttons and scroll wheel activity.
